Dietitians in private practice
Background
More than 1 in 4 Canadians suffer from diseases like obesity, diabetes or heart disease. These are serious, life-threatening conditions. Consulting dietitians run their own private consulting business. They help clients plan healthy meals, advise on workplace wellness programs and provide nutrition guidance to help people cope with dietary changes.
Access to consulting dietitians may be limited because these services are not covered by provincial health care plans. Plus, not all health and benefit plans include nutrition counseling services by a dietitian.
Position
Dietitians are the only health professional qualified to be providing nutrition counselling to clients. Dietitians are a regulated health professional in all provinces in Canada. Extended health and benefit plans that support nutrition counselling should refer to registered dietitians.
Actions
Dietitians of Canada makes it easier for Canadians to access dietitians by:
-
