Minerals are essential nutrients that are needed in small amounts to keep you healthy. The body does not make minerals. To meet your daily needs, minerals must be obtained through the food and beverages you eat and drink. Most people can meet their mineral needs by following Canada's Food Guide and eating a variety of healthy foods. Examples of minerals are iron, zinc, calcium, selenium and copper.
