Networks provide leadership by identifying and responding to key issues affecting the profession and support members who have common professional interests, areas of practices and learning needs. Networks may choose to use mail, e-mail broadcast messages and/or online tools to communicate with their members. Network members should visit their Network web site (www.dietitians.ca/members_only/dcnetworklist.asp) regularly for network news.
To participate in any of the over 20 DC Networks refer to your Membership Application Form and mark your choices. Qualifying Members are welcome to join all Networks and are automatically part of the Student Network. Any applicable taxes are included in the Network fee.
Aboriginal Nutrition
The network provides a forum for Dietitians/Nutritionists working in Aboriginal communities or those with a general interest in Aboriginal nutrition issues to share resources and ideas. Services include a membership roster to facilitate networking between members, online resource database, up-to-date articles and teaching ideas, online Member to Member discussion group for sharing of information and networking and bi-annual hosting of a session at the DC Conference.
Addiction, Mental Health & Eating Disorder (AMHED)
This network represents dietitians working with people who have eating disorders, mental illness, addictions, developmental disabilities and/or cognitive impairment. It will provide a framework for dietitians to share information on current practices, new developments, resources, and continuing education opportunities. Email newsletters, broadcasts and teleconferences about mental health, addictions and eating disorders are some of the network services to be provided..
Association of Nephrology Dietitians (AND)
The Association of Nephrology Dietitians (AND) network is open to all members who are interested in renal nutrition. Our major goals are education and networking. Members receive four newsletters per year, an up-to-date membership roster, a reduced rate at our conference and an opportunity to share and/or retrieve information about renal nutrition issues. We are a dynamic team and welcome new members!
Business & Industry
Dietitians share a variety of backgrounds including; food service and health care management, public relations, sales and marketing in both public and private industries. Membership includes educational/networking meetings in the Toronto area, with meeting notes circulated to all members; annual golf tournament with proceeds going to support the promotion of roles in business & industry to dietetic Interns; newsletters with member profiles to assist with networking; and a national networking meeting at the DC annual conference.
Clinical Nutrition Managers
This Network was established in 2001 to encourage sharing of information amongst Managers, Professional Leaders, Directors, and members of Clinical Nutrition Departments from across the country. Topics currently being looked at are: workload measurement, indicators and benchmarking.
Complementary & Alternative Therapies (CAT)
The CAT Network supports dietitians in building confidence and knowledge pertaining to complementary and alternative therapies in relation to food, nutrition and dietetic practice. Members have access to the Natural Medicines Comprehensive Database (usual individual subscription $92 US) at no additional charge. Besides a quarterly newsletter, members receive a monthly compilation of links to the latest CAT research and headlines. There is lots of opportunity for information-sharing and networking.
Consulting Dietitians
The network provides information and idea sharing to dietitians in all areas of private practice and nutrition consulting services. Membership includes three newsletters per year and a national directory posted on the network website. They are responsible for DC 's toll free number that consumers can call to find a dietitian in their area. In conjunction with DC conference, the network hosts a workshop and an annual general meeting. Members can also purchase a Private Practice Manual to help them establish and build their private practice and nutrition consulting businesses. A key area of advocacy for this network is private insurance coverage for dietitian services. They do a semi annual fee survey of network members.
Diabetes, Obesity & Cardiovascular
This network has a national focus and connects dietitians across the country with common interests in nutrition and these inter-related chronic diseases. Members receive: a News Brief service on relevant daily media issues; monthly SCOPE Notes highlighting scientific articles, conferences, and practice issues; newsletter providing comprehensive information on a particular topic three times/year; access to and support for continuing education events; the opportunity to become involved in special network projects; and sharing of questions/news from network members in various practice areas throughout the country.Dietetic Educators
The purpose of this new Network is to provide a much-needed means for anyone involved in dietetics education to share nationally, and for all interested DC members, as key stakeholders in dietetics education, to engage in important decisions related to the future of the profession in the area of education and practicum training. For the purposes of this network, dietetic educators include those who are involved in internship/practicum training, university programs, professional development, and any other informal or formal practices that work to support the education of dietetics students, interns, and practitioners.Dysphagia Assessment and Treatment (DAT-N)
Goals of this group are to define, develop and establish the following for Canadian dietitians:
Food and Culinary
The enjoyment of great tasting food is an integral part of healthy eating. While dietitians continue to gain credibility and visibility as "the nutrition experts", the perception that they lack food and cooking knowledge persists. The goal of the Food and Culinary Network is for dietitians to share food experiences, learn what makes food taste for their own use and provide tips and tools for dietitians to use with their clients about great tasting healthy food. Membership involves a newsletter three times a year with food news, recipes and other useful information and an event or workshop at the Dietitians of Canada annual conference.
Food Service Management
This new DC Network plans to initiate three teleconferences within the first year, develop and issue two electronic newsletters, host educational sessions at DC conference and produce a membership booklet list. All DC members working in or interested in food services management are encouraged to join.Le regroupement des diététistes francophones

Gerontology
Membership is a must for those working with elderly populations, either in LTC facilities or in community environments. A newsletter is published quarterly and emailed to members. Hard copies are available upon request. Past issues are available on a network archive page and can be accessed through the network website. Workshops are held twice a year in Southern Ontario, and are available via teleconference to those living outside of this area. The Network offers funding assistance for members to plan similar workshops in their areas, and for intern research projects related to seniors. An annual roster is provided to members and is a great tool for networking and accessing those with expertise in gerontology nutrition.
Home Care
This group offers an opportunity for Home Care dietitians, who often work in isolation, to share resources and experiences and keep up-to-date with the changing political climate affecting Home Care services.
Media
The network supports members with an interest in media relations, facilitates networking among members with this interest and provides leadership and input to DC Public Affairs Team (PAT) identifying and responding to key issues in the media. Members will be provided with a membership roster upon request, a valuable weekly news release service, opportunities to write DC news releases on current issues, educational resources, and a newsletter.
Nutrition and Food Security
The network provides the opportunity for members to share information, opinions and resources about nutrition and food security through the network newsletter, website and email. The network participates in the annual DC conference through a network meeting and supporting food security educational opportunities at the conference. Network members have the opportunity to participate in food security initiatives as they arise such as the development of position papers and consulting with other organizations on food security issues.
Nutrition Support
The Nutrition Support Network meets annually and publishes a newsletter designed to share knowledge, report on pertinent practice issues and provide network opportunities for Canadian dietitians working in the area of enteral and parenteral nutrition.
Oncology
This network will provide you with current nutrition oncology information through the quarterly publication "The Oncology Network Infoletter". Members can share ideas, experiences and network with others through the Infoletter as well as access oncology resources and past Infoletters on the web.
Pediatric Nutrition
This network provides a framework for dietitians to share information on current practices and new developments in pediatrics. This is done through four peer reviewed e-newsletters/year, web site, a National Networking meeting at the annual DC conference, educational sessions on pediatric related topics at the annual DC conference and having an Alliance with the ADA Pediatric Nutrition Practice Group.
Practice in Global Contexts
This new network will provide a forum for dietitians interested in gaining and sharing information and resources that address food and nutrition issues across a variety of global and cultural contexts; increasing awareness and knowledge of cultural norms/values/differences that may impact intercultural communication practices; raising consciousness of the food and nutrition issues faced by new Canadians; increasing awareness of practice opportunities in dietetics internationally; and, network with and support internationally educated dietitians as they enter practice in Canada.
Sport Nutrition
Here is an opportunity for you to interact with dietitians who practice or have an interest in the field of sport nutrition. You can look forward to a network newsletter which is published three times per year and includes useful resources and literature, member profiles, as well as information on what is up-and-coming in the practice of sport nutrition around the world. We hope you can also join us at our annual business meeting held during the DC annual conference, where you can meet other members and network with some of the best and brightest in the field of Sports Nutrition.
Student
The Student Network is a place where dietetic students and interns across Canada can connect with each other. This network allows students to share their experiences throughout university and internships and helps them to prepare for the years ahead. Members have access to articles written by other student members on topics such as 'New Findings on Nutritional Management of Type 2 Diabetes' and 'I Want to Have My Cake and Eat It Too'.
