- Description
- The Ontario Ministry of Children and Youth Services have published nutrition guidelines for the Student Nutrition Program as part of the new service delivery model. The guidelines are intended to assist student nutrition program providers in selecting nutritious foods for breakfasts, lunches and snacks in order to promote healthy eating habits among children and youth across the province.
Mary O'Brien represented Dietitians of Canada Ontario members on this team and Carol Dombrow and Lynn Roblin served as DC reviewers. Other team members included the Ministry of Education, the Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care, the Ontario Society of Nutrition Professionals in Public Health, Health Units and the Department of Family Relations and Applied Nutrition at the University of Guelph.
Last year, Dietitians of Canada worked with the Ministry of Education on the Nutrition Guidelines for Vending Machines in Elementary Schools. Lynn Roblin and Carol Dombrow were the consultants for the Vending Machine Project and kindly served as reviewers for these new guidelines to ensure consistency in the input from Dietitians of Canada. The Policy and Guidelines for Vending Machines is also available in our Resource Inventory at http://www.dietitians.ca/resources/resourcesearch.asp?fn=view&contentid=3398.
