Who can become a member?

 

Dietitians of Canada welcomes as members registered dietitians, those studying to be dietitians as well as students in food science and nutritional science and graduates of these programs who are pursuing a career in dietetics or working in an area relevant to dietetics. The education and experience requirements can be met or attested by a number of discreet options. Meeting any one of the options establishes eligibility for membership.
 

  • Registrants of any Canadian dietetics regulatory body.
  • Students in or graduates from a four-year baccalaureate degree program in dietetics (foods and human nutrition), nutrition science or food science at a Canadian provincial or territorial government-recognized degree-granting university.
  • Students in or graduates from a Masters or doctoral degree majoring in foods and human nutrition, or nutrition science or food science at a Canadian provincial or territorial government recognized degree-granting university.
  • Internationally educated or qualified dietitians who meet at least one of the approved Board following conditions:
    1. Holds membership in a national dietetics association that recognizes a minimum four-year baccalaureate degree in dietetics (food and human nutrition) from a recognized degree granting university as the educational requirement for dietitians and that is also a member of the International Confederation of Dietetic Associations;
    2.  Assessed by any Canadian dietetics regulatory body as eligible to sit the national dietetics registration exam acceptable to the Canadian dietetics regulatory bodies
  • Individuals pursuing additional education or experience in Canada as advised by any Canadian dietetics regulatory body or a profession-accredited dietetics education program in Canada to become eligible to take the national dietetics registration exam acceptable to Canadian dietetics regulatory bodies.
