Letter for registration with the Commission on Dietetic Registration (CDR)
Dietitians of Canada can issue an official letter that confirms your education, Canadian dietetic registration/licensure, and current DC membership. This letter is intended to support applications to the U.S. Commission on Dietetic Registration (CDR) for eligibility to sit the CDR dietetic registration exam.
To be eligible for the letter, the following requirements must be met:
- Active DC membership
- Education in Canada in dietetics from an accredited university
- Graduation from a dietetics program recognized as accredited in Canada.
- Graduate education from a university in North America in any subject matter
- Licensure as a Canadian RD (or equivalent provincial designation)
In addition, you must arrange for transcripts to be sent to contactus@dietitians.ca directly from your undergraduate dietetics program and your graduate program. Please note, Dietitians of Canada cannot complete the letter without the transcripts.
What the letter will include:
- Your full name and DC membership number
- The Canadian degree(s) completed in dietetics/nutrition (degree title and awarding institution) as verified from submitted documents.
- Graduate degree (degree title and awarding institution) as verified from submitted documents.
- Confirmation of Canadian dietetic registration/licensure status
Fees & processing time

Q: What will DC confirm in the letter?
A: DC’s letter will verify your DC Membership, that you’ve met the educational requirements and confirmation of your dietetic licence in Canada
Q: Will DC submit the letter directly to CDR?
A: DC will provide the signed PDF to CDR for submission and will copy the applicant. CDR will reach out to application thereafter for further directions.
Q: What if I don’t have a DC membership?
A: Ac active DC membership is required to purchase the CDR Letter.
