Collaborating to Elevate Dietitians Perspectives on Applying Canada’s Dietary Guidelines

Date: May 27, 2022

Thank you to all the members who joined their colleagues and DC for an engaging discussion on the new Health Canada resource Applying Canada’s Dietary Guidelines on May 27th. DC will share the reflections and questions with Health Canada in advance of their information sessions and Q&A. The primary topics identified by DC members include:

  • nutrition adequacy for various life stages and contexts (e.g. calcium, vitamin D, and iron for children, older adults, and those who are vegan)
  • menu planning to ensure standards & nutritional adequacy are met (e.g. in long term care, childcare, school meal programs)
  • decolonization & reconciliation as well as culture, tradition, & supporting newcomers
  • the psychological context of eating (e.g. emotions with eating, disordered eating)
  • exploring the food guide plate proportions and use of portion sizes (e.g. 1/2 plate vegetables, 1/4 plate protein & 1/4 plate grain foods and food serving sizes)
Click here to read in more detail about all the ideas, reflections, and questions provided on the above topics (members only).

DC is grateful for this opportunity to collaborate with members and engage on this important topic and look forward to continuing to listen and amplify the voices of dietitians.
