Here is the list of action groups in the region.  New members are always welcome. Please contact Member Services if you would like to learn more about these groups.

BC Primary Care and Extended Health Benefits Action Group

The Primary Care and Extended Health Benefits Action Group advocates to improve access to dietitian services in primary care and through extended health benefits. Their goal is a diverse dietitian workforce to maintain and improve the health of British Columbians through food and nutrition.
The group's objectives are to influence decision makers in BC to 1) recognize and include dietitians as essential members of primary care teams and 2) include dietitian services offered through extended health benefits plans.

Actions and activities
  • A survey related to primary care is being developed to: 1) Identify established and emerging models of dietetic practice in primary care, 2) Capture dietetic services offered in primary care, and 3) Capture areas of dietetic practice closely aligned with primary care. The information collected will be used to describe the current landscape of dietetic practice in primary care and inform DC's next steps in promoting dietitians as important members of primary care teams in BC.
  • A communication plan and materials on extended health are being developed to engage with the Joint Health Sciences Benefit Trust and inform trustees of the benefits of adding nutrition services to extended health coverage.
  • The Action Group also continues to identify and monitor current issues and opportunities.
Meetings range from monthly to quarterly depending on activities and time of year.
