Nutrition Month 2025 - Sociocultural Wellbeing Toolkit

Sociocultural wellbeing is the third subtheme of Nutrition Month 2025: Nourish to Flourish. This toolkit provides key resources to explore how food connects us to family, culture, and community—supporting identity, belonging, and overall wellbeing.

Why It Matters

Food is more than fuel—it’s deeply tied to who we are and how we live. Our dietary patterns reflect our traditions, cultural practices, values, and life circumstances. Recognizing the diverse influences that shape food choices is essential to supporting people in building healthy, meaningful relationships with food.

By embracing sociocultural wellbeing through nutrition, we can:
✅ Honour cultural and religious food traditions
✅ Strengthen family and community connections
✅ Support food choices that reflect personal values and identities
✅ Address barriers like time constraints, budget, and access to food
✅ Promote dietary patterns that are realistic, enjoyable, and sustainable

When we consider the social and cultural dimensions of eating, we empower individuals to make food choices that nourish both body and soul—creating a sense of belonging and fulfillment across all life stages.
