Listen to Jennifer Taylor

PhD, RD Dr. Jennifer Taylor is currently an Associate Professor in the Department of Family and Nutritional Sciences at the University of Prince Edward Island (UPEI). She is a recognized leader in school nutrition policy in Canada and was the driving force behind the formation of the PEI Healthy Eating Alliance (HEA). She has advocated successfully for continued government funding for HEA and for registered dietitian positions in school nutrition. Without her passion and commitment, there would be no school nutrition policies on PEI. In 2004, Jennifer was recognized for her dedication in this area when she received the Premier's Champion for Children award. She is also known for her mentoring skills, acting as research preceptor for dietetic interns for over a decade. She is highly regarded by her students for her enthusiasm and her knowledge and skill as a teacher. She uses a variety of active learning techniques in her classes and is known for her ability to motivate and engage students in learning opportunities beyond the classroom.

Dr. Taylor was also instrumental in the development of the Integrated Dietetic Internship program at UPEI and devoted countless hours to developing the program and obtaining five years of provincial funding. Again, without her dedication to the profession this program would not exist today. Dr. Taylor exemplifies the leadership focus of Vision 2020 and is a deserving candidate for this honour.

Says Dr Taylor, "The most rewarding aspect of my job as a dietitian is making it easier for children to eat healthfully and encouraging young dietitians to reach for the stars!"
