Accident Insurance for Dietetic Interns/Practicum Placement Students and Candidates

Dietitians of Canada can sell Accident Insurance to student and interns in DC accredited internship and practicum programs or to those doing practicum upgrading to gain registration status with a provincial dietetic regulatory body provided that the individual is a DC member or qualifying member.

The accident insurance policy covers bodily injury caused by an accident, provided that the injury is sustained while performing the normal and regular duties of the occupation (i.e. dietetic intern training). The policy includes coverage for accidental medical and dental expenses, as well as, benefits related to accident death or disability.

Summary of coverage:

  1. Accidental Death, Dismemberment, loss of speech and/or hearing - $100,000.00
  2. Repatriation Benefit - $5,000.00
  3. Permanent and Total Disability - $100,000.00 less any amount paid under the Specific Loss Schedule
  4. Accident Weekly Indemnity - $150.00 per week up to 104 weeks
  5. Accident Dental - $500
  6. Accident Medical - $5,000
  7. Funeral Expense - $3,000
  8. Rehabilitation - $5,000

The premium for 2020-21 is $7.00 per full or partial month of coverage.  Coverage is only available to current DC student members in a confirmed internship program. A certificate of insurance will be issued upon receipt of payment.

Payment is accepted by cheque and credit card. Cheques must be made payable to Dietitians of Canada and mailed to 99 Yorkville Ave., 2nd Floor, Toronto, ON M5R 1C1.
