Description: Join to discuss what dietitians need to know about high triglycerides. We’ll talk about the effectiveness of various dietary strategies as well as the health implications of elevated triglycerides, the effect of pre-test food on lab values, and non-dietary approaches to hypertriglyceridemia.

Learning Objectives:
  1. Educate patients regarding the meaning of their triglyceride values.
  2. Counsel patients on dietary strategies for addressing hypertriglyceridemia.
  3. Answer patient questions about the impact of food eaten the day of the blood test.
  4. Reinforce messages shared by other members of the interdisciplinary team.

About the Speaker: Cheryl Strachan is a Registered Dietitian who worked with Calgary’s TotalCardiology Rehabilitation program from 2005-2014 and since 2019 on a casual basis. She is the founder of Sweet Spot Nutrition and author of the bestselling 30-Minute Heart Healthy Cookbook.

Cheryl is from Calgary, AB. but did her internship at the University of California (UC) Berkeley School of Public Health (2005) and her undergraduate studies at UC Irvine (Biology, 1993) and San Francisco State University (Dietetics, 2004). She also has an MBA from UC Berkeley (2000).
