Empowering Clients During Ramadan: A Focus on Diabetes and Obesity [DOC Network Members Only]

Ramadan is a sacred month observed by Muslims worldwide and Muslim communities in Canada, marked by fasting from dawn to sunset, spiritual reflection, community connection and charity. This webinar is designed for dietitians to identify food and related practices during this month and who want to deepen their understanding of the nutritional challenges faced by clients observing Ramadan. The webinar will cover:

  • The physiological effects of fasting and strategies to support clients' health.
  • Culturally appropriate meal ideas for Suhoor (pre-dawn meal) and Iftar (meal to break the fast).
  • Balancing energy needs, hydration, and nutrient intake during non-fasting hours.
  • Addressing the needs of clients managing different types of diabetes and treatments, obesity, and post bariatric surgery care

Evidence-based insights and practical strategies will be offered to help you confidently support your clients in maintaining health and well-being throughout Ramadan, fostering cultural competence and inclusivity in your practice.
