Nutrition therapy is changing with increasing demands on dietitians to have knowledge, skills and expertise in diverse health related topics including nutritional genomics, natural health products, nutrition therapy that considers the whole person and understanding that healing requires more than general healthy eating advice.
Much of this is driven by the fact that the public is faced with an overwhelming amount of information from several sources including social media and so-called health coaches and unregulated nutritionists on everything from supplements and new dietary philosophies to holistic living. Some of these claims are based on solid evidence, some emerging evidence and some with no credible evidence at all. The public is craving guidance and dietitians are well positioned to prove this using their existing education and training coupled with ongoing education in nutrition therapy that integrates these principles with .a personalized functional approach to healing.
