Professional Practice in Dysphagia Management

This program is aimed at the registered dietitian who wants to enhance her/his current knowledge of provincial requirements related to dysphagia practice including controlled/reserved/restricted acts/activities and standards, and interprofessional practice.

Following completion of the program, participants should be able to:

  • Identify provincial requirements related to dysphagia including controlled/reserved/ restricted acts/activities and standards, policies and guidelines, ethical considerations and apply the knowledge to your practice;
  • Describe roles for the registered dietitian, both as a member of an interprofessional team, and as a practitioner with limited access to a supporting team;
  • Describe ways to strengthen communications between the registered dietitian and other health disciplines to improve client care and promote a positive client and family experience.

Based on adult education and learning theory, this program includes interactive features, periodic quizzes to test understanding of the learning concepts, additional resources for further reading, a final case study test to assess knowledge and application, and a printable certificate of completion. New elements of gamification and the ability to earn ‘badges’ as you complete module activities have been integrated to add interest and an element of competitiveness.

This program has been created with extensive input from dietetic practitioners and dietetic regulatory bodies. Dietitians of Canada gratefully acknowledges an unrestricted educational grant from Nestlé Health Sciences. The grant supported the development of multimedia and gamification features of the course.

Your purchase entitles you to unlimited access to course materials for 90 days from the date you register. Extensions will not be granted. It is estimated that the course will take 3-4 hours to complete. The certificate of completion will indicate 4.0 Credit Hours once you have successfully passed the course. A final grade of 80% or more is required to ‘pass’ and print the certificate of completion.
