The Food and Agricultural Organization (2010) defines sustainable diets as “protective and respectful of biodiversity and ecosystems, culturally acceptable, accessible, economically fair and affordable; nutritionally adequate, safe and healthy; while optimizing natural and human resources.” Dietitians play an important role in promoting sustainable diets by shaping sustainable food policies and practices, and through their expertise in influencing food choice and eating behaviour.
