Successful meetings with Governments from the Atlantic Provinces during Nutrition Month

As part of our ongoing government advocacy, members in the Atlantic region hosted a number of successful meetings with provincial governments while Nutrition Month and Dietitians Day were proclaimed.

Members in Newfoundland and Labrador met with the Minster of Health and Community Services and the Minister of Children, Seniors and Social Development. Members in Prince Edward Island met with the Premier. And Members in Nova Scotia met with the Minister of Health and Wellness.

This was a great opportunity to bring forward the same advocacy priorities that we shared with governments during their pre-budget consultations, such as:
  • Continued funding for Dial-a-Dietitian in Newfoundland
  • More dietitian positions in home care
  • Standardize dietitian positions in long-term care and improve outcomes with adequate dietitian time, wound care supplements and protected funding for food
View all the advocacy priorities for Newfoundland, Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island and New Brunswick in more detail.

Thank you to members of the Dietitians of NL action group, the PEI Dietitians action group and Gurneet Dhami (MSVU graduate student) and all the other members who were involved. Members also held other successful events and contributed to the planning of additional events that were scheduled for later in March, which were canceled because of Covid-19.
