Nutrition Month 2022: Ingredients for a Healthier Tomorrow

Date: March 1, 2022

March is the 40th year of Nutrition Month and this year dietitians across Canada are coming together to help ensure your future is healthy. This year’s campaign from Dietitians of Canada focuses on the key “ingredients” needed to change our food systems for a healthier tomorrow, and showcases  how Canadian dietitians are leading this change and acting on these ingredients to make a healthier tomorrow with you, your community and the planet.

“As a second generation immigrant to Filipino-Sudanese parents, food has always been a central tenet to our family, home, and community gatherings. Growing up, I recall recurrent shopping trips with my parents to Filipino and African grocers to get ingredients needed for the preparation of traditional dishes. While I'd never put much thought into the importance of this as a child, as a now practicing public health dietitian, I've come to see it as a key pillar to not only individual health, but community health,” explains Keji Mori, dietitian and Nutrition Month Spokesperson.

“Making sure that we are considering the big picture when addressing population health is critically important,” adds Casidhe Gardiner, dietitian and Nutrition Month Spokesperson. “Without tackling the upstream impacts on health outcomes, like the social determinants of health, food literacy, and environmental health, we are missing out on key ingredients for effective impact.”

Throughout March, dietitians across the country will be sharing how they can help you make your future a healthier one. From food security to food literacy and food sovereignty, to sustainable food choices, and nutrition care and prevention, dietitians from across Canada are doing their part to create a healthier tomorrow. Are you ready to make your future healthy? There are many ways to find a dietitian near you.
