Dietitians of Canada is looking for a qualified expert and member in good standing to serve as the Canadian lead author for an update to the 2016 Nutrition and Athletic Performance position paper, in collaboration with the American Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics (AND) and the American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM) as a multiorganization publication.
This is a unique opportunity to help shape national and international guidance on nutrition and athletic performance and contribute to a widely recognized and frequently cited publication.
DC members with the following qualifications are encouraged to apply:
- Extensive research and peer-reviewed scientific publication experience in nutrition and athletic performance (including publications within the last three years);
- Practical understanding of current issues and applied challenges in nutrition and sports/athletics and working with athletes;
- Experience overseeing systematic reviews and synthesizing research evidence for the purposes of developing practice recommendations; and
- Demonstrated passion for advancing the knowledge and education of sports nutrition and performance.
The position paper will be developed using ACSM’s approved Evidence Based Protocol for Position Stand development. This includes development of PICOT questions, a systematic review of the literature, evaluation of individual studies for freedom from risk of bias and grading the overall strength of evidence. The ACSM Evidence Base Practice Committee will oversee the execution of the systematic review process in collaboration with the Writing Group.
The position paper will be chaired by one member from each co-publishing organization (DC, AND, and ACSM) and will include an advisory committee of authors from the 2016 edition. The final paper, following peer-review, will be published in each organization’s journal and will be made freely available to the public.
The expectation is that the work on the paper will be completed within 24 months, with all work being completed remotely. This is a voluntary position, and monetary compensation will not be provided. All applicants must be in good standing as an active DC member and are expected to maintain an active membership status until publication.
