Dietitians Day: Your Voice Is Shaping Our Advocacy Priorities
Today on Dietitians Day, we’re celebrating the incredible work of Registered Dietitians across Canada and reaffirming our commitment to advocate for the profession.
Late last fall, Dietitians of Canada asked dietitians across the country to share their perspectives on where our advocacy efforts should focus. More than 400 Registered Dietitians responded, providing valuable insight into the issues shaping the profession today.
Here’s what we heard most clearly:
-
Professional recognition matters. Many dietitians feel the profession is undervalued by the public, governments, and other health professionals.
-
Compensation inequities persist. Pay does not reflect dietitian workload, expertise, or impact and is not aligned with that of comparable health professionals. .
-
Access barriers remain. Gaps in public access and private insurance limit patient access to essential nutrition care.
-
Dietitians are stretched thin. Heavy workloads, chronic understaffing, funding shortfalls, and a strained education pipeline threaten the quality of patient care and future of the profession.
We also heard a clear call for Dietitians of Canada to be louder, clearer, and more consistent in advocating for the value of Registered Dietitians.
Thank you to everyone who shared their voice through the survey. Your input is helping shape our advocacy priorities.
This spring, Dietitians of Canada will formally launch our advocacy priorities for the upcoming membership year, focused on strengthening recognition, improving access to nutrition care, and advancing the professional voice of dietitians across Canada
Today we celebrate the profession and the collective voice that will help shape its future.
