Description:

Affecting 1 in 4 Canadians, metabolic dysfunction-associated fatty liver disease (MAFLD) is described as a silent pandemic. It is predicted that by 2030, there will be over 9.3 million cases of MAFLD in Canada. It has become a significant public health challenge globally, with a growing incidence due to the rise of sedentary lifestyles and poor dietary habits.

The presentation will delve into the crucial relationship between diet and MAFLD, emphasizing the pivotal role of diet in both the development and management of the disease.

Learning Outcomes:

1. Describe the pathophysiology of MAFLD.
2. Discuss the role of specific nutrients and the effects of different dietary interventions on MAFLD.
3. Review the presentation of a patient with MAFLD.
4. Summarize practical and evidence-based dietary recommendations for individuals diagnosed with MAFLD.
