Celebrating Dietitians Day 2021!

Date: March 17, 2021

Today we celebrate Dietitians Day and what a year it has been. Over the past year, dietitians and students have shown great courage, compassion and perseverance.

I want to acknowledge the dietitians who have been and are still on the frontlines providing nutrition support for COVID-19 patients, adapting food services in long-term care to safely feed residents, offering expertise to community organizations and those who have been redeployed to conduct screening, contact tracing and vaccinations.

I also want to recognize the dietitians whose businesses or jobs were impacted by the pandemic. You came together to successfully raise your voices on issues you were facing and quickly innovated and adapted your services for a virtual world.

I have noted with interest the rise in activism and fight for social justice. Dietitian involvement in advocacy and social justice dates back to the early days of our profession, and it is great to see this passion is alive and well within our DC community.

I want to congratulate our student members and those who train them. You have been resilient and adapt to a virtual world and unusual practicum placements. You should be proud of what you have been able to accomplish!

Today we highlight your importance as dietitians, but you are so much more than that! We also recognize you as parents, caregivers and involved community members. Thank you for everything that you do!

Take a moment to share your gratitude for dietitians on social media today using #DietitiansDay! You can use the graphics here

I also hope that you will join us later today at our live Dietitians Day webcast: Addressing cultural competency and cultural safety in nutrition practice. There are already over 500 dietitians and students registered and registration is open up until the event starts.

Sincerely,
